I have neglected my blog for such a long time. Apologies but I still don’t know how to do this properly. Recently I have been on a Facebook page, sharing memories of school and I knew I must get back to this platform and write them down.
I hope I don’t repeat myself but here goes. I started at the girls’ school in 1958. We still had no car so we had to go by bus. We lived just less than the minimum 3 miles required to get the free school bus and no exceptions were made even though my Father was a teacher at the boys’ school. My brother David was four years older and also at the boys’ school.
The building had been a co-ed school but in 1946 was split into boys and girls. This caused complications as the boys had the hall and we had the gym and the dining room /kitchens.
We started lessons a half hour later than the boys so they had their assembly in the hall and then we had ours. The system seemed to work. The invisible line up the middle of the playground worked less well and was often crossed! We shared the sports fields and the athletic track. ‘Ath Prac’ was fun and consisted of jogging round the track looking as if we knew what we were doing.
Sports Day was a grand affair with both sexes taking part and the ladies on the srtaff sporting their fancy hats.
